Phivolcs: Trench movement may be behind deadly quake

MANILA, Philippines — The government’s seismology agency pointed to a trench in southwestern Mindanao as likely behind the deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off the island on Monday, saying hard-hit Sarangani and its neighboring provinces were prone to temblors as they are in one of the country’s seismically active regions. Teresito Bacolcol, director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), told The Manila Times that Sarangani’s coa
